My first pick is a tough ticket, Fat Ham at the Geffen Playhouse which just extended through May 11th (see below for my full review). If you’ve got a teen, whether their into Shakespeare or not, this is a great show that’ll connect with them, make them a bit uncomfortable, and maybe get you both to think about Hamlet differently. Next, make it out to Pasadena for a co-production between Boston Court and IAMA Theatre Company for a world premiere of Tira Palmquist’s The Body’s Midnight. Both companies have been on a bit of a roll lately and have different aesthetics. I’m excited to see how they meet. Playing through May 26th at Boston Court. End downtown at the Latino Theatre Company’s production of Oliver Mayer’s Ghost Waltz. Latino Theatre Company had an incredible season last year, will they continue that momentum? If you’ve never been to one of their shows, it’s glorious how rich the community support is for their work. You won’t sit in another audience like it in LA. Playing from May 4th to June 2nd at LATC. This is Anthony Byrnes Opening the Curtain on LA Theater for KCRW.
